Basics
A fellowship is a two-year, individualized, postgraduate research training program designed to prepare the participant to function as an independent investigator.<1>

Consumer health informatics (CHI) is the field that studies and incorporates patient preferences, behaviors, tools, and technologies, in order to help inform their decision making and manage their health.

Experiences
The fellow will gain experience in developing all facets of the scientific research process including hypothesis generation and development, study design, protocol development, grantsmanship, study coordination, data collection, analysis and interpretation, technical skills development, presentation of results, and manuscript preparation and publication. The fellow will receive a highly individualized learning experience, utilizing the fellow’s research interests and knowledge needs as a focus for his/her education and training.<2>

Features

  • Participation in recent and ongoing research projects including: “Impact of mHealth Tools on Medication Adherence”, “Characterizing Online Health Information Seekers”, and “Social Network Analysis of Prescription Medication Abuse”
  • Support for conception, design, and implementation of the CHI fellow study
  • Lecture opportunities in Consumer Health Informatics & Web 2.0 in Healthcare elective in Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine
  • Optional opportunity to complete Masters in Biomedical Informatics or Informatics/Public Health Informatics Certificate Programs through partnership with College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Targeting American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Accreditation
  • Minimal pharmacy staffing requirement to allow for focus on ACCP requirement of 3,000 hours of research-related activities
